Mech WIP

Ounce I finished my Guild-Off entry against Faie, I still wanted to do something along the lines of the mecha/hardsuit theme. So I started a mush larger mecha. I only have 2 arms and 1 leg, and I do not know where I am goign with the rest of it. Unfortunately it may likely be doomed and never be finished, but Is= still wanted to post it incise I continue. The main problem, though, is that I lack the parts to continue. I cannot even build the next leg. I am also itching to do something else now. But for now, a bit of help on what I can do for the torso may get me closer to finishing it, or at least having a torso.

A good tip I found for building hardsuits/mechs is that it is good to have areas around the outer area of the torso where you can attach clips that way it makes an easy way to attach the arms and legs and allow them to bend. ;The leg looks good so far but I don't like that piece for the shoulders. Why don't you just make a torso and build from there. It would make the design easier to make.

I had good inspiration for the arms and the leg, but not for the body.

You would think that, because it's in the WIP section! Roll Eyes

As I said in the chat-box, I like the shoulders and the arm joints.

MegaBump

Hey, anyone remember this old thing? I didn't until i found the wip locked away in a bucket...

So I continued with it until my winter brake ended. Right now it's what I'm calling the 'Prototype', but ounce it's finished it'll have a real name. Plus I'm going to make it fit in with my legion, so yeah.

Hmm...The hands are way too small, and I think a little protection to the driver should also be added, but otherwise, great job.

I like the leg and arm structure but the joint connections to the mech's body look a bit weak and awkward. Wink

Oh, yes. Very. Although I'm still knew to mechs, I'd like to get better at making connections that are stable.

Maybe you could extend the arms a bit? It would make it a much nicer mech when it looks like it actually has arms, not just stubs. The torso does need a bit more bulkiness, and protection o the driver could do that. Otherwise, nice work.

It's looking really good so far, but you need more joints. I don't know what image you have in your head, but whenever I build a suit I try to make it as human shaped as possible. The legs definitely need knees, in my opinion, and maybe an ankle joint too. One other suggestion, the hands look tiny compared to the wedges. Put a 1x1 tiles in the clip, then add 3 minifigure hands to it. Put two at the end in a V shape, then add a thumb to the side.

Other than those tiny nitpicks it's looking great.

Hmm... If you are going with the same design as your prototype, then I would advise against it... The torso didn't really fit in with the arms and legs; It was bulky, where as you're legs were thine, and you arms were short but not bulky.

Maybe if you could thin down the torso it would be better, but I don't know what you're doing right now, so you might have already changed it.

All I can say is keep messing with it. You will keep improving that way.

What it needs:

  • Driver Protection

  • Bigger hands

  • Not so strait legs

  • Better Joint connections from the leg to the body

Keep up the good work! Wow this thing looks

Did you even think I am leaving weapons out for this stage of the build? It's going to have a story behind it, and why the 'Prototype' version doesn't have gun. Wink

Realize one thing, it's rather difficult to make a mech this small that fits a fig, and still have everything I'd like it to. I hope to change that eventually though....Somehow...

Okay, that reminds me of a Californa Governor that has way to much muscle and doesn't get to use it. But may I suggest a jump jet so the mech can scale small walls and buildings? And make the wrist a bit thicker if possible and "beefing" up the legs by adding armour, joints and every nerds favorite.....(I'm just making you wait MAHAHA!!) hydralic joints! They are in the bull dozer set and a few others. If you don't have any I'll give you some. BTW I have 4 hydralic joints.
