Hilts and Customs of The Butchered Brick

Post by Clashy on Fri Jan 29, 2010 4:26 pm

Hey y'all, I doubt anyone remembers me (besides 'Revolution and Thunder-blade - Hay!), but it's been a while since I've been around these parts.

Finally getting back into Star Wars in a way, and I made a few hilts last night... So uhh, here you go. Razz

Now for a little bit about them.

Double Blade: No glue was used on it (I despise it because there's much better means of "bonding" and usually glue ends up looking sloppy), everything was connected by pinning (there's a hole the size of a "plume pin" throughout the entire thing), and there's several configurations you can make with it.

Singles: Simple designs, short work, not as complicated or time consuming as the double blade. The middle one was just an old screwed up chrome hilt that I had made a Yoda saber out of (well, tried to), just drilled a slot to fit a lightsaber bar and blam-o (I'll probably make a better version of it that isn't off-center). Now the other two, not much to say about those, about 10 minutes worth of cutting and sanding and bam.

Moar to come!
-Aaron

PS. I think this was the right place to post, I wasn't really sure so I just guessed. Just correct or whatever it if I was wrong. Razz

Just saw these on Flickr, these are definately the best custom 'sabers I've seen. Smile

For being a purist, I actually kinda like these. The chrome silver hilt is by far the best. Smile

Very cool. What parts other than lightsabers did you use?

I had a feeling you would like them. I can bring a couple to the next AZLUG meeting for you if you're gonna be there.

For the doubles? Binoculars and a little metal rod to pin it together.

Well, I just finished a batch of some for you guys if you want them, not sure how much I want to charge for them though.
And I could always sell and few AND do a contest thingy-mabobber.

And thanks for the compliments the rest of you.

I would say between $0.50 and $1.00 for the one bladed sabers, and $1.50 for a double blade saber.

Considering I'm the one doing the work here, I should be the one to set a price.

But thanks for the suggestion anyways. Wink

I think they should be priced by the amount of effort you put into them. Wink

Now I wish that were true!!! If I were to price my accessories by the amount of effort I put into them, then no-one would want to buy them. Unfortunately that kind of "real world" strategy can't be applied to these kind of accessories......not if you want to actually sell them.

I do believe that pricing should be left to those making the actual accessories. So it might be wise to get back onto the topic of how awesome these look and maybe what other "varieties" Clashy could come up with v;)

Oh, sorry. I didn't mean to sound rude. But other custom sellers, like BrickArms and Brick Forge have pricing like that so I figured it was a good price piont for these.

Back to the topic, the batch or hilts are excellent! Smile

I would pay about $2.50 to $3.00 for one of them.
It seems like a reasonable price IMO. Wink

Yes please do. I'm planning on being there, but I can't guarantee anything with the lacrosse season finally starting up.

The chrome one is nice, Aaron. You should try to replicate some of DeathStickMan's designs. He had some great ones.

Eh, I'd rather stay original rather than copying what someone else has made, though he has given me some inspiration for making a few more unique designs.

Indeed, but there's always ebay. And my spidey sense is telling me the price of my effort (for the first ones) is around $2.50. Wink
As for variety, I've set up a mini late for hilts, but it's rather troublesome to find tools that work for it without screwing up something.
Plus just trying to get a few to be similar in some way is rather difficult, so I may resort to requests; that way people can give me a description of how they want it and not just be cutting away and trying to figure out some random combination of slopes and grooves that might look good.

Anyways, as promised... More hilts!

Enjoy.
