Thunder-blade Origins

Post by Thunder-blade on Fri Sep 11, 2009 6:25 pm

I know you're probably sick of these threads...

You guys have all seen my trailer (if you haven't seen it click here) and I thought I'd make a thread for it.

I need help with finding a good Video Editing program. I've searched for all free ones all over the web. WMM keeps crashing..

Updates soon.

Honestly, if you feel like climbing the cliff of a learning curve, Jamshaka looks to be your best bet. You could pirate a copy of Vegas or Premiere, provided that you had access to a reliable and safe torrent site (as I would have long ago done myself under aforementioned conditions Razz ), for when it comes to free video editing software, most people aren't concerned with multi-layered audio, rapid trasnsitions, clean cuts, tight frames, panning shots, shifting perspectives, professional title work, and strategically applied effects.

Most people are concerned with flashy, gaudy rubbish that they think makes them a good editor. As such, the free software, the software that many will use, will be outfitted appropriately.

Well all I really need for this movie is the ability to have multiple audio layers. I do all the stopmotion in MonkeyJam.

I have the plot all thought out. And will flesh it out on paper soon.

Multiple audio layers, you can do with either Audacity, or multiple WMV projects. It's a pain in the Arse, it causes a lot of complications (See my Prelude to War video) but it's something you'll have to live with, regrettably.

The problem with using multiple projects in WMM is the fact that WMM is unreliable most of the time.

The problem with Audacity is it is difficult to place each audio clip to match up perfectly with the video.

I did find this one great software. AV Video editor, but the trial leaves an undesired watermark.

With WMM, put your Autosave to every minute, and SAVE OFTEN. Bind it to a hotkey, your save, and spam it after every two or three major changes Razz . Works for me.

It is. That's why it's only useful when you have a good conception of what you are going to put into your video.

Watermarks are terribad. Avoid them at all costs Wink .

The good news is my dad has connections, and he can get Adobe Premiere at a discount price. Smile

Bad news is.. my comp is too slow. Sad

But I'll see about buying AV Movie Editor...

Also, anyone who is good at VFX (say you have Particle Illusion or some other special effects video program) send me a PM.

One tip. Get a mac. I think they're a lot better than PC's. Also, they have better applications. Such as iMovie. Wink

Eh we could go all around with Mac vs PCs..

And I'm not really biased on this one, my house has at least 3 Macs around here that my Dad uses... I just don't have the time to get used to the interface. Razz

"Hi, I'm a Mac."
"And I'm a PC. Thunder blade is used to my interface."

Ok... a little off topic.
Truthfully, I've got no idea whatsoever, but I hope you prevail TB.

But then I'd have to show you everystep of what I do, meaning you get to see the film as soon as I make it. Then what's the use of a final version?

Double post/Update

I have one minute down!

But more importantly, I don't think I can fit the story I want into a single brickfilm, so this is gonna be an ongoing series.

TRIPLE POST!!

I now have 2:10 filmed. Also, apparently my dad has had Adobe CS4 THE WHOLE FRAKKING TIME!!! So I'll probably have really sweet effects.

(only downside to the CS4 is that its on the Mac, meaning I'll have to do alot of transferring, plus I have no idea how CS4 works, so steep learning curve for me.)

Well since it's a series, each episode will probably be between 3-6 minutes.
