Serenity

Post by fjords94 on Tue Sep 01, 2009 6:17 pm

I've been watching a lot of Firefly recently and I was thinking it would be cool to build a firefly class transport ship (serenity) from the show. It's kind of an ambitious project seeing as I want it being as close to minifig scale as possible and I will probably not have enough pieces. It will require many many grey/bley pieces and it's a bit more of an interesting design compared to blocky star wars ships so it's a bit more of a challenge.
Here's a reference pic of the ship:

And Captain Reynolds who I plan on making a minifig of:

This is going to take a lot of bricks and a lot of time so consider it a long term WIP.

Comments? Suggestions?

Good god, man! I'd suggest looking at some Homeworld LEGO, to get an idea of how to do all those angles successfully. There's the Homeworld LEGO Flickr Group and personally, I'd take a look at dasnewten's Taiidan Gunship:

I've thought about doing this this, but I think the number parts required is a bit beyond my capacity. I may still do some parts though...
I hope this idea isn't abandoned and I wish you luck sir! Smile

Shocked Those are quite incredible...
Thank a lot this will help with the angled front and back parts for sure. Luckily the main cargo bay part is a big box so I can just attach the engine and the cockpit sections to it.

So this is what I have so far:

Still a work in progress obviously. I still have to fill the gaps and cover up all of the multicolored structure with siding.
I also will deal with the mixing of greys and rounding off all of the angles.

The picture doesn't do it justice. It looks pretty awesome in real life, even if only partly constructed.

Looking good, but it is FAR too small.

well maybe I'll back down on the claim of it being minifig scale. Razz
It's close enough I think. A minifig looks about the right size in the cargo area and it's as big as I'm gonna get it.

Well, this one that Jens linked to is roughly half minifig scale, so you're a long way off. Razz

Yeah, if you want to scale it properly, may I suggest measuring how many studs a minifig is, divide it by the average height of a person, and work around that scale?

By the way, the Serenity just won't be complete without sleeping quarters, kitchen and engine room. Smile

From the looks of this, I'd say it's unlikely to have in interior. Also, it's just Serenity, not "the Serenity". Razz
