White Balance Teqhnique

Post by Thunder-blade on Mon Sep 29, 2008 2:00 pm

I have noticed that when some of you take pictures of your minifigs, there is all sorts of things happening in the background.

Most professionals however, uses a technique called White Balance. It takes away all the distracting background so your audience can focus on the figure it self.

First you need a lamp and a sheet of white paper, set it up like so.

Change your camera settings to manual and micro.

This is your end result.

Use this technique and your minifig will be more focused then the background.

Sorry for the Double Post... but I have another tutorial! Part two of the one above me...

HOW TO MAKE THE PICS BRIGHTER AND GETTING RID OF SHADOWS!

First of all, you have to download Picasa 3...

Pick the Photo you want to use (already white-balanced). And open it up.

Then you go to Tuning>Brightness, and raise the bar till it's satisfactory.

Then you open up GIMP, select a brush AND CHANGE THE COLOR TO WHITE! Then use the airbrush tool to erase the shadows...

Ta da!

AND! Be sure your picture is small enough for our forums. if it isn't, deeplink it. Also make sure you wait a little before you shoot the photo, because your camera needs to find the white balance. Thunder's picture is an example of both these things went wrong. The picture is too big and the back ground is yellow, instead of white, as it should be.

Yeah... I have since learned not to make my pics so big...

And nice tid-bit about the camera and white-balance... no wonder sometimes they are white and sometimes they're yellow!!

Sure, but I haven't done much with Gimp, besides recoloring some commando stickers for ABL's purple Commando SigFig...

I'm a tool! Ok, it's not what you think. Building Lego requires "tools". You were born with hands, teeth, & your brain. But I wouldn't consider these "tools". Sometimes you need a tool to build/destroy with Lego.

Example: The brick separator.

I several types of tools to build/destroy I'll post them tomorrow in this post. I made a new "tool" the yesterday the works great. I'll post it as soon I take some pictures of it, too. Until then feel free to post pictures and explanations of your "tools" that you use for building/destroying.

Never works for me. Sad

Ok, I finally figured it out!

I know some of you guys have been complaining, (namely Axel and DP) that my "white balance" turns out yellow...

I was reading my camera manual last night (I was bored ok? Wink ) and I found that there is a special mode for White Balance!!!

That was really a D'oh moment... Laughing

So you just built your AT-TE from the ground up without instructions in 30 minutes? Impossible... Also, you're REALLY off topic. Roll Eyes
