Calling all purists.

Post by clonefactory on Thu Oct 02, 2008 6:39 am

Unfortunately my Lego collection is not as great as I would like so I am looking for some purist ideas from people whom have a greater knowledge of the brick.

I would like to find a piece that I can use as a neck cowl for a minifig. Basically a part that will cover the base and first quater of a minifig head. For instance I like using yellow heads for my customs but some people complain, (rightly so) that the yellow shows through when a helmet is worn. Similar to a real Clone Trooper I would like to cover the minifig head base with a black cowl. I hope that is enough description.

Any thoughts (besides painting/ decaling the bottom of a minifig head). As a side note I feel that good ideas should be rewarded. Take that as you like.

As much as I would love to help I don't seem to understand. Do you mean you need the part under the helping to not be seen?

To the best of my knowledge, there are few, if any, pieces that can be used to fulfil that function. The bandanna piece is too high at the top, for example, and white shoulder pauldrons would only evelevate the entire head.

Quite frankly, I think that you'll have to take a custom option, as even attatching a plate to a neck bracket won't help you to encircle the entire bottom of the head.

How about an official LEGO elastic band? It could work...

Well I know of a brick that will cover the neck although it might not fit with the helmet on, it's the cowboy neck piece from the 90's or train drivers neck pieces if you're following me correctly?

That's my suggestion too. I know from experience that if you wrap one of these rubber bands around the lowest part of the minifigure's
head twice a helmet can still fit on the minifigure. It looks good and you can't see any of minifigure's head when correctly done.

Personally I would suggest using a black head with a fleshie face decal. The only other thing I can think of is custom cutting and molding a bandanna to fit under the helmet (cut the top bulges of the top and the triangles off from either side)

OK I got it. Thanks to Zeph for the original idea (Still required some customizing). I will showcase the part in the next week with my completed Captain Fordo. If needed I can also supply some instructions at that time.

Zeph you are on my X-Mas list! Wink
